ABR-ABMP Working Agreement

The American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) entered into a Working Agreement with the American Board of Radiology (ABR) effective July 9, 2001. This Agreement creates an environment in which the two medical physics certification boards can work closely together for the benefit of medical physics. Under the agreement, diplomates of the ABMP in Diagnostic Imaging Physics or Radiation Therapy Physics may request Letters of Certification Equivalence from the ABR. All ABMP diplomates need to understand the options for remaining certified for the long term. The bottom line is that July 2006 is the last time anyone can ask for their first ABR Letter of Equivalence. This will also mark the deadline for any ABMP diplomate to enter into the ABR MOC process.
