ABMP Sponsoring Organizations

The American Board of Medical Physics is sponsored by four of the premier professional organizations involved in the application of physics to medicine. Each of these organizations installs three of their members to participate in the direction of the American Board of Medical Physics by working on its Board of Directors.

American Association of Physicists in Medicine

The AAPM is a scientific, educational, and professional organization of more than 4,700 medical physicists. Headquarters are located at the American Center for Physics in College Park, MD, with a staff of 20. The annual budget of AAPM is over $5M. Publications include a scientific journal ("Medical Physics"), technical reports, and symposium proceedings.

International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine

The ISMRM is an international, nonprofit, scientific association whose purpose is to promote communication, research, development and applications in the field of magnetic resonnace in medicine and biology and other related topics and to develop and provide channels and facilities for continuing education in the field. Its multidisciplinary membership of over 5,000 consists of clinicians, physicists, engineers, biochemists & technologists.

American Academy of Health Physics

The AAHP is an organization that advances the profession of Health Physics, encourages the highest standards of ethics and integrity in the practice of Health Physics, enhances communications among Certified Health Physicists (CHP’s) and provides a means for Active CHP’s to participate in the certification program. All Certified Health Physicists are eligible for membership in the AAHP. Additionally, persons who have successfully completed one part of the two part exam are eligible for associate membership for that period of time that they remain eligible to take the remaining part.

American College of Medical Physics

The ACMP was founded with the support of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and was chartered in 1982. The Objectives of the ACMP are to enhance the quality of the practice of medical physics, engage in professional activities for the benefit of the medical physics community and promote the continuing competence of practitioners of medical physics. At present ACMP membership exceeds 450 active individual members and 30 Corporate Members.
